Wired vs. Catatonic

Like I said, these guys have been quivering with terror and/or falling asleep in our yard for years. We used to share studio space with Paty Hernandez, the artist, and her sister Pauline (ceramicist, painter, renaissance woman). We traded for these, I think, but it's been a long time.

Anyway, I was getting my bike to go to work and I really noticed them for the first time since I started making comics in earnest, and realized what quality cartooning they represented.

Paty is a phenomenal modeler. She got some fancy-pants sculpting fellowship or something with a big auto manufacturer around the time she made these, and went to Detroit to learn how to prototype cars in clay. Thankfully, she came back without contributing too significantly to climate change (from what I could tell, anyway). She seemingly can sculpt anything, but what stands out for me is her 3D cartooning, and particularly her way with animals.

Of course, my almost total self-absorption probably prevents me from seeing value in any of her talents that don't relate directly to my own interests. Too bad...
